ENGAGEMENT & WEDDING RINGS

The rings stands for the promise, it symbolizes devotion and commitment. The shape of the ring already indicates its meaning circularly without beginning and end. Thus, it has become a universal sign of eternal love and infinity. The left ring finger, which was thought to contain the "vena amoris" or the vein of love, was believed to be directly connected to the heart. Even today, the tradition consists of both engagement rings and wedding rings.

DO MEN WEAR ENGAGEMENT RINGS?

The answer is clearly, YES! A ring signifies an intention to spend a lifetime together, and many men have received engagement rings as symbols of commitment. Your love story is unique, and while there are many traditions to follow, you can always create your own path. Many same-sex couples are also embracing the idea of both wearing engagement rings. After all, marriage is a partnership of equals, so why not? Many women have also given engagement rings to their future husbands. Although this is traditionally done on the 29th of February in a leap year, there are no rules – you can pop the question any day of the year you choose! At Orrling Jewelery we believe that you should celebrate your love in the way that feels right for you.

HISTORY OF MEN'S ENGAGEMENT RINGS

Engagement rings for men have actually been available for almost 100 years. In 1926, L. Bamberger & Co, a popular store in New York, advertised men's engagement rings in the local papers. The ads were stereotypically macho and designed to appeal to the average man with money to spend. Understandably, the trend didn't catch on in the 1920s because most guys didn't even wear wedding rings back then. It wasn't until the 1940s when famous faces like Humphrey Bogart started wearing engagement rings that their popularity began to soar. Originally, most engagement rings for men were simple metal bands, but this has evolved over time into more modern and ornate designs including those with diamonds, precious stones and
mixed metals.

COMMON QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ABOUT MEN'S ENGAGEMENT RINGS
CAN YOU WEAR AN ALLIANCE RING AS AN ENGAGEMENT RING?

An alliance ring is an engagement ring that is set with several diamonds in a row. There are full alliances, i.e. a full circle with set diamonds all around, or half alliances, i.e. half the band is set. If necessary, we can of course manufacture and adapt the number of diamonds in an alliance ring according to the customer's wishes. An alliance ring is a good choice for those who want a ring that doesn't stand out as much as a solitaire ring.

WHICH METAL OR GOLD COLOR SHOULD YOU CHOOSE?

Think about what metallic color you and your partner wear. If you like to mix, it goes well, but many people appreciate sticking to one tone. In extreme cases, we make one color for the woman and another metallic color for the man. There is no right or wrong, you should choose a ring of metal and shape that matches your personality.

WHAT METAL IS MOST COMMON IN ENGAGEMENT RINGS?

White gold has been the popular metal for several years, but today we see an increase in yellow and red gold. We offer engagement rings in 18K white gold, 18K yellow gold, 18K rose gold, platinum. If you want a yellow metal, we recommend yellow gold, and if you want something more rose-like, we recommend an engagement ring in rose gold. If you want an engagement ring in a metal similar to silver, we recommend choosing an engagement ring in 950 platinum. It is a durable metal that does not require any maintenance in the form of rhodium plating, unlike white gold which should be maintained at regular intervals in the form of a rhodium bath, this to maintain its "silvery" color.
